# Next.js

> How larch uses Next.js: Hiki’s multilingual manga catalog and the Scout app for an AI sales agent, both on Next.js 15 with the App Router.

URL: https://larch.ee/technologies/nextjs/

larch builds web platforms in Next.js for founders and product teams. Hiki’s multilingual manga catalog and the Scout lead-generation app both run on Next.js 15, with React 19 and the App Router.

- Products built: 2
- Version: Next.js 15
- Routing: App Router
- Paired with: React 19
- Hiki deploys to: Cloud Run

## Built with Next.js

Two products, one framework. A multilingual catalog and the control room for an AI sales agent. Both are full products, designed, built and shipped by larch.

### [Hiki](https://larch.ee/work/hiki/)

Next.js 15 renders the catalog front end, with next-intl for locale-aware routing in every language. A FastAPI back end feeds it, and both run on Google Cloud Run.

- Year: 2025
- Stack: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, FastAPI, Python, MongoDB, Firebase, Google Cloud
- Live product: https://hiki.world

### [Scout](https://larch.ee/work/scout/)

Next.js 15 with the App Router hosts the whole app: the setup wizard, the Kanban pipeline and the analytics dashboard, with live updates while the agent runs.

- Year: 2025
- Stack: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, SQLite, Playwright, AI agents

Fast, resilient platforms that grow with your business, not against it.

What you get:

- **SaaS platforms, real-time dashboards and multilingual apps**: Hiki’s catalog runs in several languages; Scout has a dashboard for pipeline health.
- **The entire stack, from front end to database**: On Hiki: Next.js, a FastAPI back end and MongoDB, built by one team.
- **Deployed, monitored and scaled, not just built**: Hiki ships to Cloud Run through Cloud Build on every push to main.

## How we use Next.js

Real products, real routes. Both Next.js products are full products, not demos. The framework carries real data, more than one language and an AI agent at work.

### Hiki: a multilingual catalog

Hiki’s front end is Next.js 15 with React 19 and the App Router. It is one of two services on Google Cloud: the Next.js app renders the catalog, and a FastAPI back end scrapes the bookstores, enriches every title and serves the data. Scrapers run every day, and change detection flags new arrivals, price drops and stock changes. Both services run on Cloud Run, and Cloud Build deploys them on every push to main.

The catalog is multilingual from the routing up. next-intl handles locale-aware routes, genre names, tag translations and the interface, so readers browse in their own language, titles included. They filter by 21 genres, 100+ tags, price range, discount, stock and source store, and full-text search works in every supported language.

The interface uses a Neubrutalism design system: bold 2px borders, offset shadows and a manga-inspired look, built on shadcn/ui components themed to match.

### Scout: the control room for an agent

Scout is also Next.js 15 with the App Router and React 19, but here the app steers an AI agent. The agent discovers companies, enriches contacts, scores each lead from 1 to 5 against the ideal customer profile and drafts personalized outreach. Top-scoring leads then seed a second wave of discovery.

Next.js hosts everything the user touches: a seven-step setup wizard from the ICP to the first lead batch, a drag-and-drop Kanban pipeline, an analytics dashboard and an activity log of every agent action. While the agent runs its cycles, the interface updates live, so progress shows as it happens. The data sits in SQLite in WAL mode, a zero-config, file-based database.

In both products Next.js is one layer of something we designed, built and shipped end to end, from design to deployment, with no handoffs.

## Other technologies

Used alongside it. Hiki and Scout pair Next.js with React and TypeScript. See what else we built with them.

- [React](https://larch.ee/technologies/react/): The interfaces of Hiki and Scout, and of the Bridddge desktop app.
- [TypeScript](https://larch.ee/technologies/typescript/): The language under all four products, from the web front ends to the seo-mcp server.
- [All technologies](https://larch.ee/technologies/): Seven technologies, each one running in a product we shipped.
